Basil Rathbone was a British actor born on June 13, 1892 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He is best known for being the first actor to portray Sherlock Holmes in a Hollywood film, as well as for his roles as Mr. Murdstone in David Copperfield and Sir Guy in The Adventures of Robin Hood.
