Benjamin Franklin was a Founding Father of the United States and a renowned polymath. Born in Boston, MA on January 17, 1706, he is best known for his political works, writings, and his contribution to the understanding of electricity, famously demonstrated by his (possibly apocryphal) kite-flying experiment in a lightning storm. He also invented bifocal glasses, the catheter, the lightning rod, and a musical instrument called a glass harmonica.
