Grace shared her story of unexpectedly losing her father a year before her breathtaking performance on the American Idol stage.

So, Grace Kinstler’s father, Mitchell Ian Kinstler, died on February 5, 2020, at the age of 64. Mitchell and Sherry, his wife (and Grace’s mother), had been married for nearly 30 years. His children and Grace’s siblings survive him: Kristina, Jacob (Lauren), Jordan, Grace Kinstler, and Tyler (Morgan) Johnson.

Grace told American Idol host Ryan Seacrest before the audition that her father was her biggest fan and that she used to watch the show with her mother and father.

The void left by her father’s premature death will never be filled, but she did learn to cope with the loss. His absence has taught her to live each moment as if it were her last.
