Career
Andrews was discovered in the play Oh Evening Star in 1938, and Samuel Goldwyn signed him to a contract, but he believed he needed more experience. Andrews continued to work at the Pasadena Playhouse, where he appeared in over 20 productions and proposed to Mary Todd, his second wife. After a year, Goldwyn sold a portion of Andrews’ contract to 20th Century Fox, where he was cast in the first of two B films; his first appearance was in Lucky Cisco Kid (1940). He later starred in Sailor’s Lady (1940), a film produced by Goldwyn but distributed by Fox.
