Jersey Jon Szalay was born to Frank and Mary E Szalay. He inherited his father’s late father Frank’s skills for remodeling and repairing motorcycles and motorbikes. According to Jon, his father ran an engine repair shop, sold lawnmowers, and was a Bronco minibike dealer. He continued,

“In Dad’s shop, I learned about mechanical things, including an appreciation for small engines.”

Frank was also supportive of his son’s decision to follow in his footsteps. Jon’s father signed the papers for the original renovated bank he purchased when he was 17 years old.

Jon’s mother, Mary, died peacefully on Mother’s Day, May 12, 2019, at the age of 84. She was from New Brunswick, New Jersey, and worked as a substitute teacher at St. Michael’s Church. She also ran Renaissance Treasures, a small side craft business, and an at-home “pay on your honor” plant stand.
