Early life

Andrew Ng was born on April 18, 1976, in London, United Kingdom. He was born in Hong Kong to parents who were also immigrants. During his childhood, he spent the majority of his time in Hong Kong and Singapore and eventually graduated from Raffles Institution in Singapore in 1992. Ng is of Asian ethnicity and possesses dual Chinese and American citizenship. He graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with a triple major in computer science, statistics, and economics in 1997, graduating at the top of his class. From 1996 to 1998, he worked on reinforcement learning and model selection research. Later, he discusses AT&T Bell Labs’ pick.
