Ethel Griffies was born in England on April 26, 1878. Remembered for her work on both stage and screen, this British actress appeared in The Autumn Garden (1951), Ivanov (1966), and close to twenty other Broadway productions; guest-starred in episodes of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Lights Out, and Kraft Theatre; and appeared in films such as Saratoga Trunk (1945) and The Homestretch (1947). Late in her career, she played Mrs. Bundy in the famous 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film The Birds. She performed in her first London stage production in 1899 and went on to make her Broadway debut in a 1904 production of Havoc.
