Career
After graduating from Cornell University in early 1983, Whitacre worked at Ralston Purina as a Ph.D. scientist. Prior to joining ADM, he was Vice President of Degussa from 1984 to 1989. Whitacre was named President of ADM’s BioProducts Division in late 1989. He was appointed ADM’s Corporate Vice President and President of the BioProducts Division in 1992.
Whitacre was fired on August 9, 1995, for committing a $9.5 million fraud when ADM discovered he had been an FBI informant for three years. Whitacre was hired as the CEO of Future Health Technologies (FHT), which was later renamed Biomar International, after leaving ADM in August 1995.
Whitacre was hired as the President of Technology and Business Development by Cypress Systems Inc., a California biotechnology business, in December 2006, after his release from federal prison. 1st Whitacre was appointed to Chief Operating Officer (COO) and President of Operations in March 2008.
