In 1961, he made his professional debut at the Dundee Rep, followed by two years at Ipswich in 1962–64. In 1972, he joined Laurence Olivier’s National Theatre at the Old Vic. Among his notable television roles are the Apostle Andrew in Dennis Potter’s Son of Man (1969), the Earl of Kildare in The Shadow of the Tower (1972), George Stephenson in Doctor Who’s The Mark of the Rani (1985), and Lesley Flux in Midsomer Murders’ The House in the Woods (2005). In 1968, 1969, and 1970, he appeared as a guest panelist on the syndicated New York-based What’s My Line? series.
