Apolo Anton Ohno was born on 22 May 1982 to his mother, Jerrie Lee, and Yuki Ohno. He was also born and raised in Seattle, Washington, his hometown.
A closer look into the lives of Ohno’s parents revealed that they divorced when Apolo was a child. The eight-time Olympic medalist lived after its split with his father, Yuki.
Apolo studied swimming and inline speed skating during his teenage years. In fact, when Ohno was 12, he won in breaststroke the Washington State Championship. Yet Apolo favored swimming rather than speedskating. As a result, he concentrated fully on inline skating.
