Career
Her flying career was cut short when WWII broke out just as she was organizing her next trip around the world, via Japan, Alaska, and the United States. In 1939, a hangar fire damaged the Klemm L32-V VH-UVE. VH-UPV was requisitioned for the war effort, assigned to a flying training unit, declared unserviceable after the war, and demolished. Bonney was a member of the Queensland branch of the Women’s Voluntary National Register’s executive during the war. She resumed flying after the war, but due to declining eyesight, she resigned in 1949. She was president of the Queensland branch of the Australian Women Pilots’ Association in the 1950s.
