Doug Kiker was 27 years old when he auditioned for American Idol for the first time in 2020. He grew up in the Alabama town of Greensboro and spent most of his time working on a garbage truck for Advanced Disposal.

He attended Greensboro High School West before deciding to move to Mobile, away from his parents, at the age of 17.

Doug had always wanted to sing but never had the opportunity because he was too busy helping his family. He only got a chance to perform in the back of his garbage truck.

“He told me to warm up quickly. I didn’t even try to sing. I have no idea what I’m doing. “How am I going to warm up?” Doug joked in front of Ryan. Ryan Seacrest’s vocal warm-up was the first lesson he ever received.

As they hugged and shook hands, he was slightly shorter than Lionel.
