DeWyze began singing at a young age and was noticed by Louis Svitek, who saw him when he was 17 years old. Svitek signed DeWyze to WuLi Records, the Chicago-based indie label he co-owns with Ryan McGuire. With Svitek, McGuire, and Jeff Henderson, Dewyze formed the “Lee DeWyze Band.” Ryan McGuire produced both of DeWyze’s albums, So I’m Told (2007) and Slumberland (2010).
DeWyze had auditioned for the ninth season of Americal Idol on June 22, 2009, and was crowned the winner on May 26, 2010.
