Pérez represented Uruguay in four Copa América tournaments in a row, helping his country win its 15th South American title in 2011. He was also chosen for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He scored his first goal for the national team against Argentina in the Copa America quarterfinals on July 16, 2011, but he was also sent off in the same game.
