Cavetown was born on 15 December 1998 in Oxford, England. His full name is Robin Daniel Skinner. As of now, he is 24 years old.

His father, David Skinner, is a musicologist and choir director while his mother is a professional Baroque flutist and music teacher. He learned to play the acoustic guitar from his father at the age of eight. Robin is the single child of his parents.

He is of English nationality but his ethnicity is unknown.

From 2010 to 2015, Cavetown attended Parkside Community College and then Hills Road Sixth Form College till 2017.
