She grew up in a musically inclined Christian family, with her father and his brothers forming a gospel group called the Paschal Brothers, performing with bluegrass instruments in local churches.
Janet’s grandfather, a minister, inspired her during her upbringing through their shared church attendance.
She and her sister Kay, along with a cousin, formed The Gospel Classics, their own gospel singing group during their younger days.
After completing high school, she embarked on her professional singing career.
However, in 2005, Janet faced a difficult time when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
During her treatment at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, she took a necessary break from touring to undergo chemotherapy and radiation.
Despite facing personal challenges, Paschal continued to pursue her education. In 2017, she earned a master’s degree with honors in Accounting from the University of North Carolina, Greensboro.
