Career
NASA chose Hart as an astronaut candidate in January 1978. He completed a one-year training and evaluation period in August 1979, making him eligible for flight assignments on future Space Shuttle crews. Hart was also a member of the STS-1, STS-2, STS-3, and STS-7 support crews. For those flights, he was Ascent and Orbit CAPCOM with the Mission Control Team. He flew as a mission specialist on STS-41-C (April 6-April 13, 1984) and has 168 hours in space.
