His 1977 work, Firefox, brought him to international prominence. He skyrocketed to international fame after his novel, Firefox, was adapted into a film by director Clint Eastwood. He graduated from University College, Cardiff and subsequently taught English at various grammar schools in England’s West Midlands region. He published his first novel, Rat Trap, in 1976.
