Laura Ingalls Wilder was born in Pepin, WI on February 7, 1867. Author of the autobiographical American pioneer-themed Little House on the Prairie series. Her family’s years in Wisconsin became the basis of two of the most popular books in the series: Little House on the Prairie and Little House in the Big Woods. She was portrayed by Melissa Gilbert in the television series Little House on the Prairie. In 1882, a few months before her sixteenth birthday, she accepted her first teaching position in a one-room school. She also worked for a time as a dressmaker and failed to complete her high school education due to her early marriage.
