an actor, acting coach, producer, and editorial cartoonist from the United States His career began in the 1950s, with early film appearances including a supporting role opposite Cary Grant in Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest (1959). He was a regular on the television shows Mission: Impossible (1966–1969) and Space: 1999 (1975–1977).
For his role in Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988), Landau received a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, as well as his first Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor; he received his second Oscar nomination for his performance in Woody Allen’s Crimes and Misdemeanors (1989). His performance as Bela Lugosi’s sidekick in Ed Wood (1994) earned him an Academy Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe Award. He continued to act in films and television, and he was the head of the Actors Studio’s Hollywood branch until his death in July 2017.
