LAPD offers Ride-Alongs for candidates that have taken & passed their Multiple Choice (MC) Test, have attended at least one session of the Candidate Assistance Program (CAP) for physical fitness conditioning, and have successfully completed their pre-employment polygraph examination.

Really depends on the officer and the ride-a-long. Some officers never want to do it (so usually don’t) and others don’t mind at all. Some ride-a-longs want to see what police work is really about and others have an anti-police agenda and are just looking for ammo to promote their agenda.
