Following the move to Manhattan, DeGraw earned a weekly Wednesday night performance at The Bitter End, which he continued until late 2006. DeGraw became well-known in the New York City music scene at this time, eventually selling out the venue as well as other places such as The Knitting Factory. People began to take notice of DeGraw’s talent when local musicians began to cover his songs.
DeGraw released his debut album, Midnight Audio, in 2005, which he self-produced and sold over 40,000 copies without the help of a label.
