Career
He began singing at a young age and was performing professionally by the time he was in his teens. He caught the attention of Boyz II Men, a famed R&B group, who wanted to sign him as the first performer on their new label, Stonecreek Recordings, in 1996. Brown turned down the agreement, preferring instead to try his hand at starting his own record label, citing low royalties as one of the reasons. He finally recorded and marketed his music in the New Orleans underground (which featured musicians like Kane and Abel and 5th Ward Weebie, and founded Master P), collaborating with other underground artists like Magic and establishing a name for himself.
