Walter Payton was an American football player. He was a running back, and played for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He was nicknamed “Sweetness.”

Walter was the son of Alyne (Sibley) and Edward Charles “Pete” Payton. He was married to Connie Norwood, until his death, with whom he had two children, including professional football player Jarrett Payton.
