Is Lizzo Vegan?

Lizzo is one of today’s most popular performers, known for ability to rap, sing, act, as well as being a classically trained flautist,, the bubbly singer has shown herself to be a versatile talent, who isn’t afraid to rock the boat in the music industry. Aside from her show-stopping theatrics, Lizzo is known for her buxom figure, which might leave many wondering about Lizzo’s diet and whether or not she is vegan.

Lizzo is currently vegan. Over the course of her life, the vivacious singer has tried both vegetarianism and veganism, and is currently sticking to a vegan diet, taking to social media to share her vegan favorites with fans.

Read more below about Lizzo, her vegan and non-vegan favorite foods, and how she deals with body shaming as a plus-size woman in the entertainment industry.

Music, Shapes and Shaming

Lizzo’s love of music started early on, when she took up playing the flute in the sixth grade. A self-proclaimed band geek, Lizzo continued to classically train as a flautist, even taking part in the marching band in both high school and while she was enrolled at the University of Houston.

Working with various girl groups from the time she was a teenager, Lizzo rose to fame after moving to Minneapolis, then touring both the United States and the U.K. until she scored a record deal with Atlantic in 2016. Though fans and critics loved her music, her appearance often came under fire, with Lizzo’s voluptuous figure being the main target.

Despite the criticism, Lizzo has never let her detractors keep her down, saying, “Who I am, and the essence of me, and the things that I choose to do as a grown-ass woman, can inspire you to do the same. They don’t have to be like me – you need to be like you, and never ever let somebody stop you or shame you from being yourself. This is who I’ve always been – now everyone’s looking at it, and your criticism can just remain your criticism.”

For the Love of Fame and Food

Refusing to be a wallflower, Lizzo often takes to social media to share her over the top outfits and her favorite foods. In fact, Lizzo loves to cook and go to restaurants so much that she considered being a food critic if her music career did not take off, which is how she arrived at her Instagram handle @lizzobeeating.

In June of 2020, Lizzo took to TikTok, a video sharing social network platform, to share the news that she had decided to go vegan. Ever one to spread positivity, the songstress captioned the video, “As a new vegan, I’m enjoying exploring flavors from plants & plant-based proteins! Every journey is personal & deserves to be celebrated.”
