Cameron Boyce

Cameron Boyce was born in Los Angeles on May 28, 1999, the son of Victor Boyce and his wife, Libby. Victor had Afro-Caribbean and African-American ancestry, while Libby was Jewish.

He was raised in LA, where he lived for the rest of his life. He began acting at an early age, appearing in “Grown Ups” as Keithie, the son of Adam Sandler’s character, when he was 11 years old.

Boyce was signed by Disney, appearing as Luke Ross in “Jessie” on the Disney Channel. His profile increased when he joined the cast of “The Descendants” where he played Carlos, Cruella de Vil’s son.

He had a passion for dance, training modern dance, jazz, tap dance, ballet, hip-hop as well as his favorite form, breakdancing.

The movie was released on July 31, 2015, and followed by two sequels, with Boyce starring in “Descendants 3” posthumously. Its premiere was dedicated to his memory.

Cameron Boyce passed away on July 6, 2019, after being found unresponsive at his home. Boyce had suffered from epilepsy for many years and suffered a fatal seizure in his sleep.

Legacy

Boyce worked closely with several charities and used his public profile to raise a significant amount of money.

He raised money for the Thirst Project, which is committed to providing clean water in countries that otherwise lack it. Shortly after his death, the group announced they had changed the name of their Pioneering Spirit Award to the Cameron Boyce Pioneering Spirit Award.

Homelessness was another of his major focuses, working with United Way of America. He raised funds for their HomeWalk for several years until the end of his life.

Among his many other charitable causes were groups dedicated to fighting sexual assault on college campuses, providing money to families of children with sickle cell disease, and Wielding Peace, who were committed to preventing gun violence.

Boyce was keen for his charity work to be his legacy, rather than his screen roles. The money he raised and extra attention he brought to the causes he cared about should ensure that becomes a reality.
