Is Will Smith Left-Handed?

Being left handed is so rare that only 10% of the world’s population is. So, which famous celebrities are part of that 10%? Is Will Smith left handed?

Will Smith is not part of the 10% group of left handed people in the world. Although Will may never have said it publicly, there are countless videos of him signing autographs for his fans with his right hand.

Read below to find out how Will’s writing has changed over the years and if being right handed has had any impact on his personality traits.

Left vs Right

10% of the world’s population may not seem like a lot, but that means that approximately seven hundred, forty million people are left handed. There have been plenty of studies that show that being left handed can change the way you think and function. Stanford did a study in 2009 that showed that left handed people tend to favor things on the left, while right handed people favor things on the right.

They tested this by showing participants in the study very similar abstract pictures in two different columns. Those who were right handed preferred the pictures on the right and those who were left handed preferred the pictures on the left. Stanford concluded that whichever hand is your dominant one could influence the way you do things like vote for presidential candidates.

There is a long-standing belief that being left handed means you are more creative or artistic. There have been multiple studies, however that disproved that notion. This makes sense for Will Smith because he is quite artistic as he is both a musician and an actor. In the end, being left or right handed does not change much. Left handed people may just have more trouble finding things like scissors or desks that are suited to being used with a dominant left hand.

Will’s Signature

Over the years, Will’s signature has changed. On a video posted to his Instagram, he says: “From 1986 till midnight on New Year’s 1990, I signed “Fresh Prince”. Then, from 1990 to New Year’s 2000, I signed Will Smith. From midnight Y2K to 2010, I signed “Will”. Since 2010, I added the “swizzle to the bottom” Will further jokes that in the new decade, he is going to start licking things as his autograph instead. It seems that Will changes his autograph every decade, but his dominant hand remains the same.

Since Will changes his signature often, he says if a fan has an autograph by him, he will know what era it came from. Many celebrities are probably not as aware as Will about what they’re signing and when.
