Kansas Sports Hall of Famer, Paul Pierce is a former basketball player whose exploits in the National Basketball Association still speak volumes till date. Having been selected as the 10th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 1998 National Basketball Association draft, the ex-small forward went on to play for 19 seasons in the league before professionally ending his career in the year, 2017. Despite retirement, Pierce currently holds several unprecedented Celtics franchise records including having one of the longest tenures of 15 years with the team.

His career achievements include winning the National Basketball Association Championship, the NBA final Most Valuable Player Award once, being a three-time member of the All-NBA Third Team selection, a member of the National Basketball Association All-Star Team selection (ten times) and others. He also represented the United States in men’s basketball competitions which earned him Home Team Community Service Award. He is currently a media personality, serving as an analyst on ESPN.

It was on the 13th of October 1977, that the reputable athlete was born as Paul Anthony Pierce in Oakland, California, where he also had his childhood experiences. He later relocated with his parents to Inglewood, California and there, he acquired his elementary education from Inglewood high school. While in high school, Paul Pierce was an elite basketball player who participated in the all-star basketball game played each year for American and Canadian boys’ and girls’ high school graduates known as, The McDonald’s All-American Game of which he was named as one of their 35 greatest players.

He later enrolled at the University of Kansas where he continued with the exploits that earned him the Most Valuable Player Awards in the Big 12 men’s basketball championship. During the three years Paul Pierce spent at the university, he achieved career points; 1,786 and rebounds; 676 as he ended up becoming the school’s fifth-leading scorer and equally an inaugural tournament Champion.

In the year 2000, Paul Pierce nearly lost his life to a stabbing attack that occurred at a late-night club, Buzz Club situated in Boston Theatre District. He was stabbed eleven times in the face, neck, and back, and equally had a bottle hit on the head, with the bottle smashing into pieces. He was rushed to the hospital by his then-teammate, Tony Battie and his brother. He subsequently received medical help as he underwent lung surgery that aided in his recuperation.

Paul Pierce exchanged vows with his now-wife, Julie Pierce on the 17th July 2010 in Newport Coast, California. Meanwhile, Pierce has a daughter, Janaiya from his previous union to Dana Davis.

His wife, Julie is the daughter of Terry and Teresa Landrum. She serves as the founder of Melrose Avenue interior design firm and furniture line, Plush Home located in Boston, Massachusetts.
