Like all mammals, primates initially feed on milk, and so need no teeth. As they begin to eat solid foods, the deciduous teeth emerge, to be gradually replaced by an assortment of permanent teeth.
When do macaques get teeth?
All the incisors usually erupt within the first 8 weeks, followed by the canines and first deciduous molar at about 10 weeks. The second deciduous molar does not appear until approximately 30 weeks (Table 2).
What mammals are born with teeth?
Rabbits and other lagomorphs usually shed their deciduous teeth before (or very shortly after) their birth, and are usually born with their permanent teeth. The teeth of rabbits complement their diet, which consist of a wide range of vegetation.
