It is also known as dyshidrotic eczema (DE), acute palmoplantar eczema or pompholyx. This type of eczema is a chronic (long-term) condition. With treatment, most people can control their symptoms. Dyshidrosis is not contagious (cannot pass from person to person).
Is vesicular dermatitis contagious?
The rash is caused by skin contact with the oily sap (resin) of these plants. The oily resin usually enters the skin rapidly, and is seldom transferred from person to person. The rash is not caused by the fluid from the blisters. Thus, once the person has washed the oil off the skin, the rash is usually not contagious.
Can you catch dermatitis from another person?
Even if you have an active rash, you can't pass the condition on to someone else. If you think you've gotten eczema from someone else, you likely have another skin condition. However, eczema often causes cracks in the skin, leaving it vulnerable to infection. This secondary infection may be contagious.
