Does Earth Have Enough Lithium?

Does Earth Have Enough Lithium?

Lithium itself is not scarce. A June report by BNEF2 estimated that the current reserves of the metal — 21 million tonnes, according to the US Geological Survey — are enough to carry the conversion to EVs through to the mid-century.

Will the earth run out of lithium?

But here's where things start to ger dicey: The approximate amount of lithium on earth is between 30 and 90 million tons. That means we'll will run out eventually, but we're not sure when. PV Magazine states it could be as soon as 2040, assuming electric cars demand 20 million tons of lithium by then.

How much lithium does the earth have?

The total global reserves are estimated at 14 million tons. This corresponds to 165 times the production volume in 2018.
