The curette will be inserted through the cervical opening into the uterus and the sharp spoon-shaped edges will be passed across the lining of the uterus to scrape away the tissues. In some cases, suction may be used to remove tissues. If you have local anesthesia, this may cause cramping.
Is a D&C painful?
The procedure shouldn't be painful. However, you may experience some cramping during the procedure. Your doctor may order some type of sedative for you to take beforehand so that you'll be more relaxed.
How do you feel after a curette?
Your Recovery
You are likely to have a backache, or cramps similar to menstrual cramps, and pass small clots of blood from your vagina for the first few days. You may have light vaginal bleeding for several weeks after the procedure. You will probably be able to go back to most of your normal activities in 1 or 2 days.
