No; wave interference takes place whenever two waves of any frequency, same, nearly the same or widely different interact.
Does frequency change with interference?
The beat frequency is always equal to the difference in frequency of the two notes that interfere to produce the beats. So if two sound waves with frequencies of 256 Hz and 254 Hz are played simultaneously, a beat frequency of 2 Hz will be detected.
Does interference affect wavelength?
For constructive interference, the difference in wavelengths will be an integer number of whole wavelengths. For destructive interference it will be an integer number of whole wavelengths plus a half wavelength. Think of the point exactly between the two slits.
