Succinylcholine was first discovered in 1906 by Reid Hunt and René de M. Taveau. When studying the drug, animals were given curare–a poisonous plant extract that paralyzes the motor nerves–and studied the neuromuscular blocking properties of succinylcholine.
When was succinylcholine invented?
Succinylcholine was clinically introduced in 1951. It is also called suxamethonium (“sux” for short), and has been sold under the brand names Anectine, Quelicin and Sucostrin.
When was suxamethonium invented?
Suxamethonium. In 1951, Burns and Paton ascribed the neuromuscular blocking effects of decamethonium to depolarization of the motor end plate24.
