Does Footnotes Count as Word Count?

The word count DOES NOT include the bibliography or citations/references in the text (Harvard Style referencing) or in footnotes or endnotes (Chicago Style referencing). ANY OTHER INFORMATION INCLUDED IN A FOOTNOTE OR ENDNOTE OTHER THAN A REFERENCE OR CITATION WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE WORD COUNT.

Does Microsoft word count include footnotes?

Word Count can include or exclude footnotes, endnotes and text boxes (not each element separately; it's an all-or-nothing scenario).

How do you make footnotes not count in word count?

Re: Word count
  1. Go to the "Review" tab in the MS Word ribbon then locate the first section to the left labeled "Proofing".
  2. Click the Word Count icon to display the dialog box. Then deselect "Include textboxes, footnotes and endnotes" option by unchecking the box.
  3. Click close to close the dialog box.
