The High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is in south-east England. Covering an area of 1,450 square kilometres (560 sq mi), it takes up parts of the counties of East Sussex, Kent, West Sussex and Surrey in order of respective contribution.

Over 53% of Wealden District falls within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – a landscape of national importance which was designated as an AONB in 1983.

How high is the High Weald?

The highest ridge of the High Weald AONB rises to 223m (732ft) above sea level on Ashdown Forest and 225m (738ft) at Crowborough Beacon, on the edge of Crowborough Common. As a comparison, the highest point of the eastern South Downs directly opposite the High Weald is Firle Beacon at 217m (712ft ) above sea level.
