An ultrasound is generally performed for all pregnant women around 20 weeks into their pregnancy. During this ultrasound, the doctor will confirm that the placenta is healthy and that your baby is growing properly in the uterus.
Can you see baby features on ultrasound?
A 3D fetal ultrasound can detect facial abnormalities or neural tube defects. Typically, a fetal ultrasound offers reassurance that a baby is growing and developing normally. If your health care provider wants more details about your baby's health, he or she might recommend additional tests.
How do you tell if its a boy or girl on a sonogram?
We can tell the sex of the baby at the 12 week scan by assessing the direction of the nub. This is something that can be identified on babies at this stage and if it points vertically then it is likely to be a boy. If it points horizontally then it is likely to be a girl.
