When Does Area Equal Perimeter?

A two-dimensional equable shape (or perfect shape) is one whose area is numerically equal to its perimeter. For example, a right angled triangle with sides 5, 12 and 13 has area and perimeter both have a unitless numerical value of 30.

Is perimeter equal to area?

The perimeter will always be even, because the length is multiplied by 2, making it even, and is added to the width which has been multiplied by 2, also making it even. But if both the length and the width are odd, then the area will be odd, meaning that it is impossible for the perimeter to be the same as the area.

How does area relate to perimeter?

The perimeter is the distance around the shape. The area is the amout of space inside the shape's outline.
