Goldwork is the art of embroidery using metal threads, or threads with metal leaf wound round a normal textile thread. It is particularly prized for the way light plays on it. The term "goldwork" is used even when the threads are imitation gold, silver, or copper.

Goldwork is the most regal and luxurious of embroidery techniques. Once accessible only to the wealthy, goldwork embroidery was used historically to adorn ecclesiastical textiles, military uniforms, and clothing and textiles for the nobility.
What is passing thread in goldwork?
Kreinik Passing Thread is ecclesiastical grade of real metal. This grade will remain bright for approximately 10-20 years. The passing thread has 2.5% GOLD along with a lacquer which prevents oxidation for a long period of time.
