Let it breathe. It may seem logical to keep ringworm covered with a bandage to prevent spreading the infection. However, bandaging the rash locks in moisture and slows the healing process. Instead, wear comfortable, breathable clothes to speed healing and avoid spreading the rash to other people.
How do you cover up ringworm?
Apply a thin layer of cream just past the outside edges of the rash. Spread the cream, beginning from the outside area first, then move toward the center of the rash (Picture 1). Do not cover the ringworm with a bandage. Wash and dry your hands well.
What should you not do when you have ringworm?
To avoid re-infecting yourself with infected items, you should wash clothes, towels, and bedding that you use while you have ringworm. Be sure to wash everything in hot, soapy water. If you have athlete's foot, you'll want to toss all shoes and other footwear that you wore before you started treatment.
