The ozone layer is the common term for the high concentration of ozone that is found in the stratosphere around 15–30km above the earth's surface. It covers the entire planet and protects life on earth by absorbing harmful ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation from the sun.

Where is ozone found on Earth?

Most atmospheric ozone is concentrated in a layer in the stratosphere, about 9 to 18 miles (15 to 30 km) above the Earth's surface (see the figure below). Ozone is a molecule that contains three oxygen atoms. At any given time, ozone molecules are constantly formed and destroyed in the stratosphere.

What two places is the ozone found?

Ozone (O3) is mainly found in two layers of our atmosphere: the troposphere and the stratosphere. The stratosphere, 10 and 50 kilometers above the Earth's surface, contains around 90% of the total atmospheric ozone amount.
