At around four weeks old, kittens are ready to begin weaning. Under four weeks of age, kittens are considered neonatal and might not be ready for weaning from their mother's milk or formula.
When should kittens be introduced to solid food?
Solid food can be introduced from around three to four weeks of age – special kitten food (wet or dry food) is always recommended as these have been specifically designed to meet the special nutritional demands of a young growing kitten.
What do you feed a 4 week old kitten?
The kittens will need to be bottle fed with milk replacer every 2-3 hours (including overnight) and kept warm and dry.
- 1 – 4 weeks old: will need to be bottle-fed kitten formula.
- 5 weeks and older: can be offered canned food for KITTENS ONLY but they may still need to be bottle-fed.
