The spawning season for grayling is not the same as for other salmonid species, as it takes place in April and May rather than the winter months. This species spawns in shallow water where there is fine gravel and a moderate current speed. Eggs only measure around 3mm and hatch after two to three weeks.
When can you catch grayling?
Mid to late June, weeds start growing in the shallow areas, the water begins to warm and the grayling line the banks of the rivers feeding on caddis, mayflies, ants and terrestrials. Early July to beginning of August the water is warm and smaller fish can still be found in the shallow areas.
What is the best bait for grayling?
Maggots and worms are considered the best baits for grayling and they will also take artificial flies.
