Once a bantam chicken starts laying eggs, they will lay every other day for about four (4) to six (6) months, then they will stop producing while they shed their feathers (called molting). Don't worry, they will get a new set of feathers. The eggs produced by the bantam chicken are smaller than the average egg.
At what age do bantam chickens stop laying eggs?
Fact: Healthy hens lay eggs most consistently in their first two years of laying. But, hens won't fully stop laying after they've reached that age. Although the number of eggs will naturally decrease by roughly 10% each year, most hens will only stop laying eggs after six or seven years.
Why do bantams stop laying eggs?
Bantam hens, like all other hens, can stop laying eggs for any number of reasons. Often bantams will stop in very hot or cold weather, when they are sick, old or stressed. Mostly though, it's because they tend to go broody and sit on eggs instead of laying them.
