The cartilaginous ossification center of the distal radial epiphysis ossifies 8–18 months after birth, and that of the distal ulnar epiphysis ossifies at 5–7 years of age. Each epiphysis fuses with its metaphysis at approximately 16–19 years of age (5).
At what age does the ulna ossify?
This development is found to be as early as one year in males and females for the distal epiphysis of radius, but that of ulna starts to ossify only at 3 years in females and 6 years in males.
What is the age of fusion?
The Skeletal ages show great variations throughout the world. The age of fusion for radial and ulnar epiphyses in 100% males is 18 to 19 years. The age of fusion for radial and ulnar epiphyses in 100% females is 17 to 18 years. Since Kashmir is a conflict zone, standard for epiphyseal fusion becomes important.
