They include the tumbleweeds, pigweeds and goosefoot families just to name a few. Even some edible plants like beets, spinach, amaranth and quinoa are considered chenopods. These plants typically start pollinating in August and persist until the first frost.

But according to Dictionary.com, a chenopod (pronounced KEY-no-pod) is “any plant of the goosefoot family, which includes spinach, beets and pigweed.” The goosefoot family and pigweed are about as familiar to me as chenopods.
