The Diocese of Peoria announced on Dec. 18, 2019, that Venerable Fulton Sheen will be beatified Dec. 21, 2019, at the city's Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception.

What happened to the beatification of Fulton Sheen?

Sheen had been buried in New York, but his body needed to be moved to Peoria for his sainthood cause to progress. After years of legal back-and-forth, a pro-Peoria court ruling led to Sheen's remains being exhumed in June 2019 and moved to a crypt at St. Mary's Cathedral.

What was Fulton Sheen's miracle?

The miracle involves the unexplained recovery of James Fulton Engstrom, a boy stillborn in September 2010 to Bonnie and Travis Engstrom of the Peoria-area town of Goodfield. Engstrom's parents prayed for the intercession of Sheen for their son's recovery.
