Will Cats Starve Themselves?

Will Cats Starve Themselves?

Can a cat starve itself to death? Yes! Not intentionally, but sadly due to the way their livers process fat your cat can and will starve itself to death. Unlike people, your cat will never get hungry enough where it will just eat.

How long will a cat starve itself?

The average cat can technically survive for one to two weeks without food if they have a water supply. However, without protein, it may be more like three to four days, even if they have enough water. With no water or food, it is unlikely that a cat would survive longer than three days.

Will a cat eventually eat food it doesn't like?

Cats are creatures of habit and will typically resist change, especially to their meal plans. Have you recently changed your cat's food? Maybe she's stubbornly refusing to try the new flavor. Your kitty can't go too long without eating, so she will eventually eat what's in front of her.
