Losartan is not a beta-blocker, though, like beta blockers, losartan (called an ARB or angiotensin receptor blocker) is also used to treat high blood pressure. ARBs lower blood pressure by blocking the action of a hormone that causes your blood vessels to constrict, while beta blockers reduce how hard your heart beats.
Do ARBs cause bradycardia?
As previously discussed, ARBs are less likely to cause bradycardia than are beta-blockers and are also less likely to cause lower extremity edema, a side effect that has been reported with CCBs such as amlodipine. The rates of chronic dry cough with ARBs have been found to be similar to placebo.
Do ARBs reduce heart rate?
As an extension of their beneficial effect, they slow heart rate and reduce blood pressure, but they may cause adverse effects such as heart failure or heart block in patients with heart problems.
