In 80% (8 out of 10) of pregnancies, pyelectasis resolves during the pregnancy or after delivery without any treatment. You will likely have additional ultrasounds as the pregnancy continues to determine if the amount of urine has decreased, remained the same, or increased.
Does pyelectasis go away?
Pyelectasis and Other Health Risks
If the pyelectasis persists, an ultrasound of the newborn kidneys is recommended. Typically, however, pyelectasis disappears by the third trimester of pregnancy and has no negative effect on the baby.
How often does pyelectasis resolve on its own?
Pyelectasis will resolve spontaneously more than 90 percent of the time. If the blockage is more severe, your baby may need follow-up care and possibly surgery after delivery.
